International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) began in 1998, occurs on October 22nd and is designed to raise awareness about the challenges that people who stutter experience. ISAD is a joint, world-wide endeavor by persons who stutter and their families, students, and professionals (educators, researchers, and clinicians) interested in stuttering. ISAD is co-sponsored and recognized by major international stuttering organizations including the International Stuttering Association; the International Fluency Association; the European League of Stuttering Associations and the American Speech-Hearing Association Division on Fluency and Fluency Disorders.
This year’s events include the thirteenth annual online conference, People Who Stutter, INSPIRE!, hosted by Judith Kuster, emeritus professor, Minnesota State University, Mankato. The conference will open October 1, linked to The Stuttering Home Page ().
The online conference features several papers written by professionals and consumers (people who stutter) from around the world. Papers are written in a reader-friendly style. Participants can read papers and interact with the presenters on easy-to-use threaded discussions attached to each paper during the three weeks the conference is "live" -- from October 1-22. Papers remain available online after the conference has ended and all past conferences are archived and available ( ). Another feature of the conference is “The Prof is In” where several professionals with expertise in fluency disorders respond to questions from clinicians, people who stutter, and their families
The ISAD online conference is freely available or can be taken for Continuing Education (1.5/15 hours) or one university credit (either graduate or undergraduate). Instructions and requirements for CEU or credit are online at ().
